How to read the result
- Valid: the number is active for intra-EU trade. Check that name and address match your customer.
- Invalid: not registered or not active for intra-EU trade. Check for typos and the country code.
- Unavailable: VIES or the member state is temporarily unreachable. This does NOT mean the number is invalid. More on VIES outages

Is this VAT number check free?
Yes. You get 5 one-time free checks, without an account. After that, or for automated checks in your software, use the API: a free API key includes 5 checks per month.
Where does the result come from?
From VIES, the European Commission system that queries the member state's tax authority. A result may come from our cache (up to 24 hours old).
Do you store the numbers I check?
The result is cached for up to 7 days to reduce load on VIES. It is not linked to you. See the privacy statement.
